I just don’t understand people! How can people live that way!?!? I mean don’t they smell that! Dang! Those people who had that house were just nasty. I consider what we are doing a rescue mission. Rescuing this poor house! It is such a great house and it has such a good strong frame and was built really well but it a decorating nightmare! Wait until I have the pics up! I will see if Mister still has any of the pics he took of the house when he did the inspection. If so I will post some so you can see what I mean. At least they are not scratch and sniff! It was a nightmare. They are packrats. I think they may have had that packrat disorder. They claimed that they sold antiques but it was mostly worthless junk. Now remember, this is an approx 7000 sq ft house and they had every inch of it stuffed and I mean stuffed full of shit!!! And on top of that is smelled like cat!!! When our real estate agent walked us through the door the first time the smell smacked us in the face big time! It was bad. I had to dig in my purse for my perfume! Seriously, it was that bad. I walked a bunch of contractors through that place and each one I would meet outside first for a little chat and warn them about what they would be about to smell going in there! It was bad. I had to carry my little bottle of essential oil w/me and take frequent smells just so I would not get a headache. And to make matters worse it is summer and he keeps the windows closed and no air!!! What a freak! The man is a total nut case. I went by last weekend and they were having a SALE b/c there is no way one could move that much shit so I guess they thought they would try to sell it off. Anyway, I asked the guy if I could walk through the house and he said sure. My mom has still not seen the inside of the house yet and she was with us and wanted to see it. So she went in and was about to cry. She was like, there is soooo much shit in here and there is no way he will have all of it out before we move in. Well, I, myself, know how much shit they had in there, thought that it was greatly improved upon. They have moved out about 75% of their stuff! Granted they still have a ton of shit left so I can see why my mom, not seeing it before, thought it was an overwhelming amount of stuff, but now you could actually see the floor! And the smell has actually improved a bit too. It smelled not soooo much like a cat house as like an old stale warehouse. Must be because all of the furniture is gone. My g_d though! How could they live w/that smell for so long!?!?! It was bad! It gives me hope though that is was mostly in the furniture and not so much on the carpet so maybe we won’t have too much sub floor to replace. That would be nice! Oh well, we won’t know the damage until we pull it all up and I will get some pics. I am going to take pics and document this journey the whole way.
So why did we buy a smelly cat house that needs a lot of work?
Well because we got it for a steal and it doesn’t really need that much work. The work it needs is all cosmetic. The reason it is going to seem like soooo much work is because we are going to be doing most of it ourselves because Mister is cheap thrifty. The only problem with this is Mister is ALWAYS busy. He owns his own business and never stops working. So I am not sure if he will be able to fine enough round-to-its to get this done in a timely fashion. I am also not a patient person whatsoever so this will be interesting. I told him that if he is going to be doing a lot of this himself then he needs to brace himself to be nagged a lot and he said that would nothing new. Ha! He has seen nothing yet! Just wait until he tries to slack!
We do have one or two guys, professionals who will be helping us along the way. One we have not interviewed yet. He is the kitchen guy. The other guy will be helping us with the reconfiguration of our entryway and our moving of a wall and building of the mud room and will help out w/the major construction parts. I’ll call him Guy. He was very nice and seemed to be on the same page and pace for the vision of our project. He was very confident and had a lot of good ideas and pointed out a lot of things the other contractors missed. He also seemed like a good person. His wife works w/my mom. He works a lot too like Mister, so maybe between the both of them we may get this project done yet. When this is all done we be living in a $500,000.00 house on a lake and I will have my family with me. It will be nice. It is not my dream house. That would be a Frank Loyd Wright but this will be close enough as I get to gut the entire place and it is big enough! Mister will not allow any cheap materials in the home either so that means I get nice stuff too! And have I mentioned it is on a lake!!! There are also no neighbors. I mean there are a few but they are not close and since this is in the country I am hoping they are not all snooty and shitty like the suburban ones I have now. This move is just going to be so great…now if we could just get started!!!
